Apple, Google and Microsoft knew, and announced that by the end of 2023 they would implement a single password-free authentication standard on all mobile, desktop and browser platforms they control.
According to them, the password-free login process will allow users to choose their as their primary authentication device for apps, websites and other digital services.
The new method will make remote account hacking more difficult because a hacker will need access to a physical device. Leaks of logins and passwords will become irrelevant, and the danger of reuse of identical passwords in different services will disappear.
The idea is to make the authorization process dependent on a physical device.
